Translator Face Challenges, Part 1

Translating is not as simple as it may appear. It requires a specific skill set; being bilingual isn´t enough.





There are over 7,000 living languages in the world and every one has its own expressions, idioms, false friends(words that appear similar, but have different meanings), etc. For example, take the Spanish expression, ¨No hay mal que por bien no venga.¨ In English, ¨Every cloud has a silver lining.¨ Just imagine if it were translated literally! Jargon, slang and jokes also present special challenges. A joke in one language may lose its humor when translated to another. To be continued.......
